About

markita staples curly crew books

I’m Markita.

I’m a wife and mother of two beautiful girls, Emerald and Autumn. I became inspired to write books for early readers when I became a mom and discovered that there was a limited selection of board books featuring babies of color. I hope that my books provide a space for babies of color and their parents to bond over characters that represent their everyday lives. I’m originally from Detroit, MI and currently live in Atlanta, GA.

Curly Crew Books is is my self-publishing company. So far, there are two books in the Curly Crew series and I plan to write many more!
